The inspiration for this waterfront condo was to capture the essence of the Art Deco period, which exploded at the 1925 exposition of Decorative Arts and industrial modernism in Paris, and incorporate modern influences.
Celebrating the use of materials the designer, Brenda Shuwera, enjoys working with the medium of glass. You will see examples of her work throughout the space, such as her expression of a modern day shoji screen in the dining area, above the bar. There are also two pieces of eight foot sandblasted glass enveloped in veneered strips of wood in the ensuite.
Beyond the kitchen and dining area, the space opens onto a light filled lounge area. A Modern mix of crisp whites and clean lines creates a soothing symmetry overlooking Lake Okanagan. Shuwera chose a palette of whites, creams, and sandy tones to accentuate the client’s collection of art pieces from local artists. The tones give the feeling of an art gallery setting while maintaining warmth in the space.
This home is just one of the properties showcased on the Designer Digs Tour, March 5th, 2010. The tour features real people, real homes and renowned designers.
