Red Dot Frenzy at Sopa
Such was the hype surround the 2009 U8 Affordable Art Show that, in the run up to the event, I overheard people mentioning that they were going to get there early, line up before the doors open and make sure they were in prime position for the best pieces. The event has certainly taken on a life of it's own and this years was the biggest ever. Some 340 pieces of art from around 80 artists filled the contemporary Sopa space and as soon as people started pouring through the doors those 340 pieces were being plastered with red 'sold' dots. Hats off to Deborah at Sopa for generating such a buzz in an area business know for a more laid back approach. They've put the fun back into art collection.
